Welcome back to the first Sunday Seven post of 2020! How is everyone feeling about their goals and intentions so far? Mine are a little ‘meh’ as this first full week of the new year still seemed out of whack. We didn’t have daycare Monday or Tuesday so I still felt out of routine. Hoping to turn that around this week so that I can make sure 2020 is a hell of a year. Let’s jump into what’s been catching my eye and inspiring me this week.

Tackle the Clutter
One of the big goals I have for 2020 is declutter and organize our house, which seems to be a common theme for a lot of people in January. To help with this I’m using this 30-Day Declutter Challenge workbook from Money Can’t Buy Lipstick. I’m excited to see how much I can get rid of when I start purging.
Healthy Breakfast Idea
Another goal of mine for the upcoming year is to be better about meal planning and prep. Breakfast is often a meal that I struggle most with because I have an aversion to eating anything that’s primary ingredient is eggs. This means hardboiled eggs, omelets, scrambled eggs, egg bakes, etc. are all a hard no. With that condition, it can be pretty hard to find a breakfast option that’s healthy and isn’t heavy on the carbs and/or sugar.
I came across this Steak Tips Hash recipe on PaleOMG and I’m planning to use it as inspiration for this week’s breakfast. I say inspiration because I’m going to switch out some of the ingredients for items I already have on-hand. For instance, instead of steak I’ll use summer sausage and orange sweet potatoes instead of white.
What to Read
If reading is a goal of yours for the new year, then do I have a recommendation for you. I read Verity by Colleen Hoover in December in like two and a half days because it was so good. I will say, as a mom there were some hard parts to read that shook me a bit. Colleen Hoover is one of my favorite authors and this book is very different from the others she’s published. Most of her books are romance-centered but this one was pretty dark. If you need a book to hold your attention, this one should do it.
On My Wishlist
Is it just me, or do mascara companies keep changing their formulas – and not for the better. Or maybe it’s my eyelashes changing (is that a thing?). Either way, I’m struggling to find a mascara that I love. I’m currently using Urban Decay’s Perversion, which was a Black Friday find with great reviews, but it’s not thickening my lashes like I’d like. I also find that it smears on my brow bone throughout the day. And it sucks to wash off at night. Three-strikes and you’re out. Still on the hunt, I’ve read some great reviews on L’Oreal Lash Paradise that might be the next one to try. I struggle with having to buy a million mascaras to find the perfect one, but mascara is one of the items in my makeup bag that I just can’t live without. If you have a different recommendation, leave me a comment below as I’m open to trying other brands, too!
What to Add to Your Wishlist
The weather in Minneapolis has been super strange so far this winter. We’ve had some abnormally warm days (that I’ll never complain about) and some that are downright frigid. From what I hear, we’re heading into a deep freeze this week, meaning I’ll have a perma-chill until I can thaw out again. What’s getting me by this winter is my heated mattress pad. If you live in an area where winter means single-digit temps, you need to get one of these.
Stop the Scroll
But only after you’ve finished reading this post… 🙂
I’m totally guilty of aimlessly scrolling through my phone after putting Ivy to bed. It’s funny how I can hop on Instagram, Pinterest or Facebook with the intention of only scrolling for a few minutes and later realizing an hour or more has passed. I know I’m not alone in this – it’s so easy to do. So when I come across The Everygirl‘s “Seven Things to do at Night Besides Scrolling” it resonated with me. Since reading it, I’ve made a more conscience effort to put my phone down and do something else. This has left me more time to pick up a new book, write out the next day’s to-do list and watch a new show with husband. Give it a try and let me know how you do.
Preschool Play Idea
I’m always looking for new arts and crafts and playtime ideas for Ivy and the Mama Notes is one of my favorite sources for inspiration. The other week she posted an activity she set up for her girls and I think it’s the perfect winter activity. Check out the super cute “Hot Cocoa Shop” sensory play idea over on her blog.
I hope you come back next week for another Sunday Seven read. I’ll also be back mid-week with a new post on potty training – how we did it, how it’s going and what I recommend. And if you missed this past weeks post on goal tracking in Trello, you can check it out here.
