Happy Read Across America Day! If you’re unaware of what this special national “holiday” is, it is celebrated every year on March 2nd (which happens to be Dr. Seuss’s birthday) as a way to encourage kids to read. And while this day is primarily for the kids, I think moms can use a little encouragement too! So read on for a list of books recommendations to pick up for your kids or yourself!

Book Recommendations for Kids
There’s so many fun children’s books out there that it’s very hard to pick just a few – but I did it. I actually keep a running wish list of sorts on Amazon for books I would love to add to Ivy’s library. I can then provide a link to that list to friends and family during the holidays or come back to it for gift ideas from me and her dad. These titles are mostly geared toward ages PreK and up.
Book Recommendations for Moms
Over the last year and a half I feel like I’ve really found my love of reading again. But it wasn’t through non-fiction, autobiographies and self-help type books. I have the mentality that if I’m going to read, it’s going to a book that doesn’t require me to think too much. I get enough of that from my full-time job and maintaining the day-to-day in our household.
I’ve pulled together a small list of book recommendations that I’ve read and loved as well as books I have on my list to read. These are all fiction books and tend fall in what I think would be the contemporary women’s fiction or contemporary romance genres. There’s a few series included but most of the books can be read as standalone titles. I’ve also indicated if the book and/or series is included with the Kindle Unlimited subscription (which I have and LOVE!).
Books I’ve Read and Loved
I had never heard of this author before reading this series but after reading the first book I devoured the remaining two. I’m pretty sure I read the entire series in less than a week (which is very abnormal for me). I eventually went on to read other series from this author but I think this series remains my favorite of hers. Added bonus – all of these titles are on Kindle Unlimited!
I heard about this book on TikTok and in some of the reading groups I joined on Facebook. It was described as a must-read for married women, or women who’ve been in a long-term relationship, so naturally I was intrigued. And let me tell you – I’m glad I read it. I enjoyed following Ryan and Lauren’s journey on their year of separation and what they learned from it. And as a wife who will be celebrating my own 10th wedding anniversary this year, it made me think a lot about my own marriage.
Now, I’ll preface this series by saying it’s not for everyone as there are definitely some trigger warnings to consider. But I thought the character development was well done and I enjoyed the storyline a lot (even if it my be considered taboo). I had a hard time putting this series down (so much so that I read both books in two days). Both of these books are also free with a Kindle Unlimited subscription.
This was a super sweet story to read and perfect for summer (or a beach vacation). The writing was excellent the characters were well thought out. I highly recommend this one!
I had heard a lot about this series on TikTok and it was for good reason! I loved that the books intertwined with the characters from each book but that they could be read as standalone books and still make sense. My favorite book of the series was “In the Weeds” because I loved getting to know Beckett and Evie’s character better, especially Evie! Another series that is free to read with a Kindle Unlimited subscription!
Books on My To-Be Read (TBR) List
This book is all over TikTok and Instagram with book lovers alike saying it’s a must-read. And because I loved the Briar U and Off-Campus series by Elle Kennedy so much, which were also hockey romances, I’m thinking I’ll love this one too.
Another book that’s all over BookTok (TikTok) and Bookstagram (Instagram) that I quickly added to my TBR because of its high praise. It also has a super cute cover so naturally I had to pick this one up in physical form. I’ve read a couple of books by Christina Lauren (which is actually two women who write together) and have enjoyed them all. I have this one on my list to read this spring/summer.
Lucy Score is an amazing writer! I seriously have loved all the books she’s written and am super excited about this title she JUST released a couple of weeks ago. This is the second book in a three-part series and I can’t wait to devour it just I like I devoured the first, Things We Never Got Over (which actually deserves a spot on my recommendations above). Added bonus – both the first and second books are available to read for free with Kindle Unlimited.
I can’t remember where I heard about this book but I find the synopsis intriguing. Definitely a different storyline than the contemporary romances I’m typically drawn to. But I’m excited to read along with Joshua’s journey to happiness and learn about what’s in the hidden letters from his late wife.
I should probably stay off BookTok and Bookstagram because my TBR keeps getting longer and longer. But that synopsis, does it not sound amazing? I’ve seen many people mention that Archer would be their ideal book boyfriend, so that was enough ammo for me to ensure it was added to my list. Can’t wait to read this one!
Let’s Keep Reading Together!
I plan to do regular posts on my book recommendations once I’ve finished some. With that in mind, I’m hoping I’ll have more thoughts on some of the books I’ve included in my TBR list soon! In the meantime, feel free to follow me on GoodReads to see what I’m reading in real-time.
And if you have any recommendations on your favorite books, leave them in the comments below! I’m convinced one can never have too many books to read. 🙂
